Guinea Hens

Guinea make very good watch dogs and will inform you if something different is going on or if they think there is an intruder. Guinea are good tick and bug eaters. They originate from the west coast of Africa. Although it is difficult to visually sex guinea hens, you can tell their sex by the call they have. Male guinea have a one-syllable call while female have a two- syllable call. You can also recognize that males have a much larger helmet than females. Guinea are wonderful brooders and often will hide and show up later with little keets in tow. Guineas are known to be used for meat as their egg laying ability is poor.
