Reproduction:

  • Coturnix Quail mature very quickly; they reach sexual maturity around 6-8 weeks old.

  • Having such a quick maturity makes them a great choice for egg and meat production.

  • Coturnix Quail are easy to breed; our recommended breeding ratio is 1 male to every 5 females. This helps keep down competition and gives a better fertility rate.

  • It is very easy to incubate the eggs in a small at home incubator. Some of the birds can get broody and hatch chicks on their own.

  • Coturnix eggs are a short hatch day; they only take 18 days to hatch.

Meat and Egg Production:

  • These birds are prolific egg layers; average egg production is between 250-300 per year.

  • Quail eggs are a very nutritious food source.

  • If you are allergic to chicken eggs, quail eggs can be a great alternative!

  • Full grown coturnix quail yield around 4oz of dressed meat; our jumbos can be up to 6 oz!

  • Quail meat has a delicate flavor and is very tender.

  • Often considered a delicacy in many cuisines.

  • Rich in high-quality protein, vitamins and minerals.

    • Easy way to manage manure.

    • Cages can be stacked vertically to maximize floor space.

    • Provide enough space within the cage to prevent overcrowding. Please see our management guide for more infomation.

  • Ventilation

    • Use proper ventilation within the housing to maintain air quality and prevent buildup of ammonia.

    • Can use fans to help improve air circulation.

  • Lighting

    • Implementing light to provide 16 hours of light per day at peak will stimulate egg production.

    • This is very helpful especially during the winter months.
