What kind of space do my birds need?
To make sure your quail and other gamebirds are raised to be healthy and strong, it is very important to make sure you check if you have the correct amount of feed, water, and growing space.
This blog will cover that information for you so you don’t need to do trial and error!
I have worked in the poultry industry for 10 years, including 4.5 years at MacFarlane Pheasants, the largest pheasant farm in the US. I have raised my own birds as well to document and make sure the information I have gathered is correct.
The table below lists the Minimum requirements you should be meeting for the amount of birds you have. More space is always good! Following these guidelines will keep your birds happy, keep diseases occurences low, and keep your birds from picking.
A few things to note…
Feeder spacing is based on linear inches, so if you have round feeders make sure to measure the circumference in inches.
The feed flats I based my number on are 12” x 24” so if you are using smaller paper plates just make sure you are accounting for how many you need according to the size you are using.
To follow the requirements, take the number of birds you are getting and divide them.
